I trust your summer was full of rest, recuperation and resolutions for an even brighter 2019.
It’s a privilege to find each column I write a challenge – sounds ironic, doesn’t it? It comes to having a wealth of news to update on and not nearly enough space to do it in. We are thankful to be at the heart of an ever-thriving and growing, pan-sector industry.
Here are just some of the highlights.
Hire Industry Association of New Zealand (HIANZ) CEO Phil Tindle and I have just returned from a whirlwind trip to the American Rental Association (ARA) Conference and Trade Show in Anaheim, California. It was fast-paced but a brilliant source of enriching knowledge that we are excited to apply on home soil. A positive mood to the ARA meeting, led by the ARA CEO Tony Conant, set the tone for robust and productive discussions.
Key takeaways included the rise and rise of digital innovation and the role e-commerce platforms will increasingly play in our future and how big data is informing valuable business decisions and Customer Relationship Management (CRM).
The European Hire Association’s (HAE) new Managing Director, Rupert Douglas-Jones, updated us on the UK’s foray into Virtual Reality (VR) use. Companies across the UK are now using VR in their safety training; participants don VR goggles and can navigate and identify hazards in simulated settings like working on scaffolding, so they can develop and refine essential skills. The future is full of promise, and we are excited to embrace change in New Zealand.
I’m thrilled to report that our brand new Association website is near completion. The presentation of the website is synonymous with what HIANZ and its members stand for – professionalism, great attention-to-detail, and excellent communication. A members’ area will be incorporated into the site. This forum will host useful information as well as an e-commerce platform to order stationery.
Our website should be up and running by the conference. Speaking of which…
Conference and Trade Show
Anticipation is growing as we head towards one of our major annual initiatives – our 2019 Conference and Trade Show. This year’s theme is People & Profit. The conference provides an excellent opportunity to take time away from the grind, and mix with likeminded people. This neutral backdrop is perfect for networking and being part of a great sharing environment.
This year’s event will be at Claudelands Event Centre in Hamilton. We are looking forward to a positive conference with our loyal suppliers and a core theme of wellbeing which should be a priority for us all.
As ever, progress is ramping up on all fronts. Four of our Equipment Safety Data Sheets have been completed and are presently being trialed ahead of hitting the market. We are looking forward to delivering these at the conference.
The New Zealand Forklift Industry Association (NZFIA) is gathering momentum, and at HIANZ, our membership is already on a positive growth trajectory for 2019. We are proud to see a net gain in our membership year-on-year.
On behalf of HIANZ, we wish you all a positive few months ahead, and I will check back in with more updates in my next column.
