Members Code of Ethics

The members of the Hire Industry Association of New Zealand (HIANZ) share a common commitment through this statement of ethical practices to promote the highest possible standards of professional conduct.

All members of HIANZ undertake the following:

Responsible Business Practices
To maintain the highest reasonable level of safety for all products, equipment, services, staff & customers, to support the development of industry standards and safe practices through appropriate training.

To provide a safe working environment.
Members MUST have adequate public and, or, liability insurance, or an equivalent insurance if not New Zealand based. Members are obliged to provide evidence of such insurance on request.

To pay their debts in accordance with their creditor’s terms and in the case of a dispute to declare to the creditor, if requested, the reason for withholding payment.

Public Interaction
To protect the public against fraud and unfair trade practices.

To present or supply products and services honestly without misrepresentation.

To provide proper, fair and reasonable service to customers including but not limited to after sales service.

To make a full and frank disclosure to customers of all material terms of any agreement with them.

Ethical Standards
To comply with all relevant laws, codes, standards, regulations, and judicial or quasi-judicial decisions.

To act at all times as a responsible ambassador’s for the Association

Interaction with Competitors
To recognize that other members will compete for business within lawful practice, and in light of that, to compete fairly, with integrity, and in compliance with all applicable laws, standards and enforceable contracts.

To never knowingly infringe any other parties’ intellectual property rights and if any innocent breach occurs then to address and rectify any such breach immediately.

Association
To support the Association by taking an active role in HIANZ activities and promoting the Association to the industry.

HIANZ ‘Code of Ethics’ is a guideline and does not represent the entire scope of good conduct and ethical behaviour. Acceptance of and adherence to this Code is a condition of membership.

If a breach of the Constitution or Code of Ethics becomes known to the Board, it shall have power to act of its own volition as defined in Clause 7 of the Hire Industry Association of New Zealand Constitution, even if no complaint has been received. Breaches of the Code of Ethics can result in disciplinary action not limited to fines, sanctions, suspension or termination of membership. The Board’s decision is final.
